Cesar Chavez and Coretta Scott King during the fast
|
About this film...
In 1972 Cesar Chavez conducted what he called "a feast of love" in Arizona. He was trying to touch the hearts of Arizona legislators who had passed teh most restrictive farm labor legislation in the country
People in Arizona said that it couldn't be done
that things would never change.
The response was: ¡Sí Se Puede! Yes We Can!
This film catures a moment that sums up the farm workers movement. The sacrifices of Chavez brought people of good will from every walk of life to the Santa Rita Community Center in the Phoenix barrio of Campito. From Coretta Scott King, Joan Baez and George McGovren, to Arizona's farm workers and Yaqui Indians — all were inspired and brought closer together. As Chris Hartmire says in the film:
"As Ceasar is getting weaker, we are getting stronger."
It is a message that resonnates today, more than ever. |
